Blue Moon to Ring in the New Year

This is the Blue Moon on New Years Eve 2009. The term “blue moon” generally refers to the second full moon in a month and occurs just once every 2.7 years. The last blue moon to shine on New Year’s Eve was 19 years ago, in 1990.

I was very happy that the sky cleared up and I was able to grab this shot of the amazing blue moon.

Frosty Morning

Here are some more beautiful frost pictures from this morning. I hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Daily Shoot

The Daily Shoot is a great idea from James Duncan Davidson and Mike Clark.

“The rules are simple. We post a daily photo assignment. If you’re inspired, and we hope you are, you’ll create a photograph with whatever camera you have, upload it somewhere, and respond to the assignment tweet with a link. That’s it. Simple.”

This is my first submission for The Daily Shoot:

The Key

You are the only person who holds the key to your future. Make sure you use it to unlock your potential and live a happy and full life.

Daisy Up Close

Some of my daisies are starting to wilt, which is sad, but all part of their natural life cycle. I am glad I was able to share their beauty with you.

Guard well your spare moments. They are like uncut diamonds.
Discard them and their value will never be known. Improve them
and they will become the brightest gems in a useful life.
- Ralph Waldo Emerson

Gardeners , like everyone else, live second by second and minute
by minute. What we see at one particular moment is then and
there before us. But there is a second way of seeing. Seeing
with the eye of memory, not the eye of our anatomy, calls up
days and seasons past and years gone by.

Happy Birthday

Ribbons are so bright and fun, you can’t help but smile and feel happy when you see them.

SAIT Engagement Sessions

We had two couples come into our class today for engagement photos. It was interesting to have so many photographers shooting the couples at the same time, but it was fun. Here are a few photos from the shoot.

*I dreamed of a wedding of elaborate elegance,
A church filled with family and friends.
I asked him what kind of a wedding he wished for,
He said one that would make me his wife.

Gerbera Daisies

A smile can brighten the darkest day. ~Author Unknown

It takes a lot of work from the face to let out a smile, but just think what good smiling can bring to the most important muscle of the body… the heart. ~Author Unknown

A smile costs nothing but gives much. It enriches those who receive without making poorer those who give. It takes but a moment, but the memory of it sometimes lasts forever. None is so rich or mighty that he cannot get along without it and none is so poor that he cannot be made rich by it. Yet a smile cannot be bought, begged, borrowed, or stolen, for it is something that is of no value to anyone until it is given away. Some people are too tired to give you a smile. Give them one of yours, as none needs a smile so much as he who has no more to give. ~Author Unknown

Candle Light

* Thousands of candles can be lit from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared.

Buddha

This is the face of a statue my sister gave me. I think it is supposed to represent a female Buddha. Either way I think it is very cool. Here are few Buddhist sayings that I found:

*Fill your mind with compassion

*What we think, we become

*Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn’t learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn’t learn a little, at least we didn’t get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn’t die; so, let us all be thankful

*Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one getting burned.

Sparkler Fun

I love sparklers, they are so fun! These days everyone is so busy and on the go and sometimes you forget to appreciate the little things in life. Make sure you take time to remember the good things, forgive and let go of the not so good things, live in the present and…….. have fun!!

Curtis and Crista Wedding Session

Curtis and Crista got married in Mexico December 2008. They are a beautiful couple who accepted my offer to be models for my wedding photography class. It was a lot of fun, and I bet they felt like movie stars having 15 different photographers asking them to pose and act natural and smile and kiss for 3 hours. They were great sports and a great couple to photograph. Here are a few shots I took.

YAY it’s the weekend and time to get out and play. We went for a walk after dinner tonight to a nearby park to take some more frost shots. I told you I love the frost, it makes everything pretty, lol.

Karisa and Jason – Engagement Session

Karisa has been on of my best friends since junior high school. We have been through a lot together and she is an amazing person.  I was so happy when I heard the news that her and Jason got engaged. He is a great guy and they completely complement each other.  I am thrilled to be able to take some engagements photos for them. These photos were taken June 2009 in Edmonton, AB.  They got married on August 8, 2009 and are now expecting their first baby, Baby Mackey.  I am so excited for this amazing couple and can’t wait to see what exciting things the future holds for them.

Snowflake

This is a photo from December. I was so excited when I got it. It is my first snowflake macro.

Coffee Beans

It is Sunday night and I am pretty tired from the busy weekend. I am thinking that coffee might be a necessity tomorrow morning.  Good night and good morning everyone.

Selenite Lamp

I love this! I got it as a house warming gift from my Mom. it is a Selenite lamp. It reminds me of a big crystal or glacier. This was shot with the light inside on.

Selenite is a form of fibrous and crystallized gypsum. Selenite is 70% water and will dissolve it left in water.

The word Selenite comes from the Greek word for Moon and means moon rock.

Nova Scotian Pewter

I went to Nova Scotia in June 2008. All the shops sold pewter items including jewelry and ornaments. There are even entire stores devoted to only selling pewter. Of course I had to buy a few pieces of handcrafted Nova Scotian pewter. I bought a star fish and sand dollar.

The sand dollar is 4cm or 1.5″ across

The starfish is 4cm or 1.5″ across

Pewter is an alloy of tin, copper and antimony and requires little care to maintain its lustre. It will not tarnish, but may need an occasional cleaning if handled frequently. Wash in warm soapy water with a soft cloth. A paste of baking soda and water is also a good cleaner.
